These small, hard-to-find bands are great for day old & growing chicks & other poultry; also Quail, Pigeons, Pheasants, Guineas, Game birds, Waterfowl, Ducklings, Turkey Poults, Canaries, Finches, etc.
Soft and stretchy, yet strong, these bands are easy to apply and remove. NO TOOLS NECESSARY. Made from medical grade elastic, which is stronger and longer lasting than rubber.
For reference, here are some examples of size:
Size 2 fits Button quail & domestic hatchlings such as Canaries and Finches.
Size 3 fits day old common quail & Bantam chicks.
Size 4 fits day old standard / large breed chicks, Guineas, Pigeons, etc.
Size 5 fits day old chicks with feathered legs, such as Silkies; also, Turkey Poults, Ducklings, Peafowl, etc…
Size 6 fits growing juveniles.
At our farm, we hatch several hundred chicks per year. We personally use these tiny, thick elastic bands on a regular basis to identify chicks from different breeders…they are quick and easy for one person to apply and remove. NO tools needed! We breed standard & heavy breed chicks & guineas, which use size 4 at day old. Please note that heavily feather-legged breeds such as Silkies use size 5 at day old. After approx 2-3 wks, change to the next size up.
PLEASE NOTE THAT THESE BANDS WORK EXCELLENT FOR BABY AND GROWING POULTRY /BIRDS. THEY ARE NOT INTENDED FOR PERMANENT IDENTIFICATION ON ADULT BIRDS. MANY OF OUR CUSTOMERS USE THEM ON ADULT QUAIL, BUT I CAN’T GUARANTEE HOW LONG THEY WILL LAST, AS IT DEPENDS ON ENVIRONMENT AND OTHER FACTORS
Be aware that ANY/ALL leg bands are not necessarily harmless and that they can pose a health risk–the band can potentially become entrapped in the enclosure’s wire or accessories, contributing to injury of the bird (such as bruising, cuts, and fractures)
Choosing bands which are appropriately sized, applying the band(s) correctly, and keeping your birds in good health will help to minimize these risks.
When using leg bands on growing birds, please watch daily growth and adjust to larger sizes BEFORE your bands get tight!
YES, THESE BANDS ARE SOFT AND STRETCHY, BUT THEY CAN (LIKE ANY OTHER TYPE OF BAND) CAUSE PROBLEMS IF ALLOWED TO GET TOO TIGHT!
A proper fit is slightly loose on the leg; like a bracelet.
When I discovered that these tiny bands worked great as legbands several yrs ago, I decided to share with other Poultry breeders, and decided to sell them…I labeled the sizes according to inner diameter measurement. Although my bands are sized very similar to the U.S. Industry standard, they may not be the exact same size as other types of legbands…. look at measurements, and / or examples of sizes of birds they should fit when purchasing any legbands for proper size. I have many years of experience with these legbands, which I feel are a much safer & easier alternative to the spirals and other hard plastic bands that are hard to put on and take off in these small
sizes
